Lori Saunders: Light Painting – Create Magic in the Dark

Use light as your paintbrush and capture creative art in the dark. Join instructor Lori Saunders and discover techniques that turn a single, long exposure photograph with moving lights into an other-worldly image caught entirely in-camera.

Lori will give step-by-step demonstrations of multiple light painting approaches, including how to create images with light alone, work with models, and use table-top setups with props. Participants will have the opportunity to practice painting with light using hand-held tools and experiment to see what works best.

All skill levels welcome; however, you should be comfortable with your camera and know how to change basic settings (shooting mode, focus, ISO, speed, F-stop). Shooting will be in manual mode, and setting guidance will be provided throughout.

Recommended Gear: A digital camera with manual exposure controls or a cell phone (with experience using a long exposure app). Lenses in the range of 12-70mm. A zoom lens is preferable but prime lenses will be fine if that’s what you have. If you have a remote trigger, that will be helpful but is not required. A sturdy tripod is a must.

NOTE!  There will be bright flashing and strobing lights. Make sure you are comfortable with this before signing up.
