Judges for the Nature and Photo Art categories, all nationally or internationally known professional photographers. The Photo Art judges also judge the Student Competition.
The judges are asked to score each image from 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest score. There are typically more than 800 entries in both Nature and Photo Art. The top 500 images are juried into the show. The number of entries juried in for each category is proportional to the number of entries in that category – so, for example, if 10% of all the images submitted (Nature plus Photo Art) are in the Birds category then 10% of the juried images are from Birds.
Judges for 2025 are Mary Louise Ravese (Student and Photo Art), Marie Joabar (Student and Photo Art), Kristi Odom (Nature), and Roman Kurywczak (Nature).

Kristi Odom, a Nikon Ambassador and award-winning photographer and filmmaker, is internationally celebrated for her work in wildlife photography, conservation, and environmental storytelling. With a background in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech, Kristi combines technical expertise with a deep passion for nature, enabling her to capture stunning wildlife imagery with precision and innovation. Her engineering foundation allows her to thrive in the most demanding environments, merging technology with artistry to create impactful visual stories.
Throughout her career, Kristi has received numerous prestigious accolades, including awards from Nature’s Best and National Geographic, for her ability to convey the emotional and urgent need for conservation through her images. As an Associate Fellow with the International League of Conservation Photographers and a contributing photographer for National Geographic, her work continues to advocate for the protection of wildlife, people and habitats.
When she is not at home in Longmont, Colorado, she travels the world photographing and teaching. Her photography workshops have taken people across the globe, providing not only education but also unforgettable encounters with some of the world’s most incredible wildlife.

Mary Louise Ravese is a fine art photographer who draws inspiration from a variety of visual arts to produce photographs often described as “painterly”. For the past 25 years, she has travelled the world in search of her favorite subjects – landscapes, nature close-ups, interesting architectural details and abstracts.
Mary Louise’s photography is in private, university and corporate collections in over 40 states and is exhibited nationally through art shows, galleries and shops. Her images have been used in calendars, magazines, books and websites including the National Parks Magazine and various projects with National Geographic maps. In 2020 she was awarded the distinction of “Master Artisan in Fine Art Photography” by the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, in recognition of achievement in the three benchmarks of excellence in craftsmanship, resolved design and unique voice.
Mary Louise has been a speaker at photography conferences and is a regular competition judge and speaker for photography clubs from the Carolinas to the Royal Photographic Society in England. She enjoys teaching photography at all levels and leads online and in-person classes, as well as photography workshops. For more information visit her website www.BellaVistaPhotography.com

Marie Joabar has been immersed in photography and photography education for more than 25 years and is passionate about sharing her knowledge of photography, cameras and digital technology with others.
Whether she’s teaching photography, helping one better understand their camera or “see” better compositions, she works to build one’s confidence and take away the intimidation and sense of overwhelming that often accompanies learning new things.
Marie founded Capital Photography Center in January 2012 to help those with a love of photography grow their skills and reach their goals. To this end, her company offers a wide variety of photography classes taught by professional photographers and photographic educators where amateurs, hobbyists and professionals can learn about the areas of photography suited to their interests and experience level.
In addition to running her business and teaching, Marie finds time to enjoy her own photography and loves country landscapes, dynamic cityscapes especially at nighttime, and capturing people; both candid and posed. Her travels have given her the opportunity to photograph in Europe and throughout the United States. Her work can be viewed on her website at www.mariejoabar.com

Roman Kurywczak is a professional nature photographer who has conducted countless workshops and lectures across the globe for over 22 years. In early 2024 he decided to retire and focus on passing on his passion and knowledge of photography to others through his educational seminars and lectures.
Roman is equally comfortable with landscape photography including Milky Ways, wildlife photography; especially birds in flight, as well as closeup/macro photography. While he enjoys photographing insects, his favorite subject is flowers, which he buys for his wife and he is sticking to that story.
A proud member of the Tamron Creative Collaborative as well as the author of several instructional eBooks on nature photography, Roman strives to share his passion for photography as others have shared with him. After 56 years as a New Jersey resident, just 13 miles outside New York City, Roman and his wife of 34 years, Pura, have recently relocated to SW Florida. He is also the proud father of two grown sons.
You can find his eBooks, prints, and more on his website: www.roaminwithroman.com or follow him on his Facebook group at: Roamin’ with Roman Photography or on Instagram: @roaminwithromanphoto.
