My name is Hugh Simmons and I am primarily a nature and travel photographer who also enjoys venturing outside of those genres. My goal is to not simply make a record but to produce images that bring to the viewer the beauty and awe of our world and the creatures that inhabit it and, in so doing, convey the importance of conservation and protection.
My journey with photography began as a young boy with a Kodak Instamatic camera and progressed through high school when I got my first 35mm SLR. While other kids were studying sports statistics I was reading every book on photography that I could find.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology my interests in nature and photography led, inevitably, to a desire to photograph all aspects of nature and especially birds. In 1994 I joined the North American Nature Photography Association as a founding member.
I currently travel extensively as a photographer and guide for Naturalist Journeys, LLC.
