Jose Esquilin

I’m a photographer, visual storyteller, and retired U.S. Navy veteran with over a decade behind the camera, primarily focused on athletes, portraits, and creating emotion through intentional lighting. My style leans dramatic and cinematic, but at the core of it all, I’m drawn to images that feel real and connected to the subject. Beyond creating photographs, I’m passionate about helping other photographers better understand light — whether it’s natural light, strobes, or constant lighting — and how to use it with purpose instead of just effect. Through workshops, speaking engagements, and collaboration, I enjoy sharing both the technical and creative side of the craft in a way that feels approachable and practical. More than anything, I want people to leave inspired to create work that not only looks good, but actually says something.
